Excellent smoker so far

I have only done a couple of cooks in this smoker but so far it has been great. It takes a little bit of time to assemble and season so probably do not expect to start smoking straight away. The temperature control seems to be excellent only drifting by about 5 degrees F around the set temperature if that. There are a few things to note. The sheet metal it is made of is not that thick so I am not sure about its longevity and heat retaining properties but for the price you pay it is OK. It tends to use more charcoal than say an offset smoker as once a piece of charcoal is small enough it falls through the grate into the ash pan. Also the grate does not tend to hold smaller fire starter blocks that I usually buy so I will probably still get it going with an electric starter wand. And the last thing is that every time you move away from the phone app even if you leave it open in the background it will lose connection with the smoker. It does not take long to reconnect though so only a minor annoyance. None of this detracts too much from smoking experience though.
So far though I would recommend this smoker just for the ease of keeping a consistent temperature and not having to constantly check it for charcoal, the gravity feed system works great. I won't be getting rid of my old school offset smoker just yet but the Masterbuilt Gravity Series is a great addition to my BBQ area and will surely get a good workout.
